I get asked this question all the time…..
“Matt, where should I be advertising?”
The list goes on and on. Here’s what I know.
With marketing, the foundational piece and 1st step to consider is attention. Meaning, if you
don’t have someone’s attention there is no possible way you’ll be able to convert them into a
new paying patient, right?
I mean think about it, if your driving a car and you don’t pay attention to the road at all, is it
possible to get where you want to go without crashing?
What about if you and your friends are watching a movie at home and you don’t pay attention to
it, are you going to be able to know what’s going on in the movie?
It may sound silly, but attention is the starting point where all actions take place.
That’s why people advertise on billboards, tv and radio. As people drove, their attention was on
the road where billboards were, as they watched tv shows their attention was on the tv and as
they drove their attention was listening to music or sports etc. on the radio.
With advertising, the process goes like this:
1. Advertise- get someone’s attention!
2. Capture- capture their contact information and turn them into a qualified new patient
3. Sell- convert them from a prospect into a new paying patient.
Why is this important?
Because, this will show you logically why Facebook, Instagram and YouTube are BY FAR the
best ways to advertise your dental practice in today’s day in age.

radios had everyone’s attention, then it was TV’s, then direct mailers, now it’s our phones!
Between Facebook, YouTube and Instagram, the average American spends over 2 hours a day
on social media, according to multiple sources, including
In fact, I think that number is grossly underestimated, I believe it’s more like 3-4 hours the
average person spends on their phones each day.
What does that mean for your business?
This is a new era of attention!
Social media is the new TV, and is the best option to use for getting people’s attention because
everyone spends over 2 hours a day on there and since none of your competitors know how to
use social media to get new customers, these leaves massive opportunity on the table for your
